"Wake", a story of blood and grief

Iron and salt mingled and washed over his palette, tempting the gag reflex. Inky black swam across his eyes, denying revelation to the burden that pinned him against the earth.

The scent of burning timber and charred meat seemed to cling to his body, hair, and the weight pressing down. Silence surrounded him: no dogs barking, no children bickering - only the immobilizing mass seizing his form.

Oh, Lord, his mind started, I’m dead! This is hell! I’m burning and denied an escape – Oh, Lord, please, no!

A Tale from the Underground Railroad

“Sweet Jesus, is it hot!” Jacob muttered, fumbling through mosquito-laden fog with a fading lantern swinging from an extended arm.

Another masked light bobbed lazily twenty feet behind him.  “Eli, close that shutter a bit,” Jacob hissed.

Between the lamps, four dark-skinned figures huddled close to one another, their features lost in the muggy darkness.

Buffet of Reading Options: Bibles to Bombs and Back Again

Here's a buffet of different things to check out, if you get bored enough:

Legacy of an English Bible is an in-depth research article about who, when, where, why, and how the Bible came to be translated and distributed to the English-speaking world.

Five Dark Ends is a collection of five short stories about death in a dying world (it's mad cheap, too).

If superheroes, myths, or mythical superheroes are you're thing, stop by InfoBarrel and learn about Thor's hammer, Mjollnir, and Odin's spear, Gungnir.

How about current events?  What's Russia's gameplan?  Why are you paying terrorists to kill people?  Also, Israel is screwed because robots are going to take over soon.

Stop by the apocalypse news desk to glimpse how the world might end.

Philosophically, the eye I think I know inside is made from an eye I think you know like I know eyes.
The dilemma arises because thought is no more real or unreal than murky meanings of a relatively rapid existence.

If you're coming over for dice tonight, be sure to bring only the basics and jettison anything weighing more than a modifier.

Using Dice to Birth or Kill a Mechanical Brain While Living in a City

Well that title doesn't make any damn sense at all, does it?  No, it's not as cool as it sounds.

Here's a bunch of new stuff for folks to check out:

The Story of Woonsocket - the third installment of articles telling a narrative history of Woonsocket, a small city in Northern Rhode Island that has it's roots in the early Industrial Revolution.  If you want to check out the whole thing, here's a link to Part 1 and Part 2.

Machine in the Skull - a philosophical essay that asks questions about the nature of human consciousness, the mind, and whether it's all just a function of the mechanical brain.

Birth and Death - is there any point to life?  Does birth or death have any meaning in and of themselves?  Stop by and explore these profound questions and more.

Re-thinking RPG Systems - if you're a gamer, particularly in the tabletop arena, stop by the Die Ch'i and check out some articles about gaming and how to elevate your gaming prowess.

A Trinity of Ridiculous Ideas: Dice, God, and the Apocalypse

For those unfortunate souls following along, I've added some new content and thought it'd be nice to share the madness.  Aren't I considerate?  Damn straight, I am.

Thanks for looking, friends!

I love role-playing games and my site, The Die Ch'i, is all about RPGs and the true way to play. If you're into dice, take a look at a recent article discussing why most RPG systems suck: the rule-books. Chime in and let me know what you think! There are some new resources in the Library, as well, and much more coming down the pipe.

If you enjoy controversy, stop by The Socratic Ape and find out why faith in God is delusional, so says this latest piece.  Sometimes, tidbits of madness escape and I record some of them on the Ramblings page.  Any thoughtful remarks are welcome; discussion is important to philosophical inquiry.

The World is Fooked (both a statement and a website) is rife with grating opinions, news commentary, and a cynical view of the world.  Right now, there are several ways an Apocalypse might begin--here are three possibilities pulled from world headlines.  While you're there, educate yourself about the dark secret of shenanigans.

Thanks for reading.

Divine Weapons, Textile Mills, and Game Theory

Mythology is fascinating stuff--so are comics, movies, and books, right?  Odin is the father of Thor, both deities of Viking fame, and every deity has a potent weapon, right?  Right!

Woonsocket history may not be terribly exciting but it is interesting.  The second part of my historical overview of the city, a narrative story, covers the growth of industry and political consolidation.

  • Stop by and read about the history of Woonsocket: Part 1 ~ Part 2

I love me some role-playing games and if you feel the same, then stop by The Die Ch'i and read up on how to be the greatest game-master ever.  While you're there, take a look around: you might find something useful.

The Curse of Consciousness - an article about perception, duality, and how consciousness can be a burden to some of us who don't understand or can't express it

Thanks for looking!
